ready for fall

Aug 30, 2005 | Life in Progress

Today I woke up to rain and clouds and a cool 50 degrees. Now I know I’m a true Portlander because I was so happy about it! It’s been nothin’ but sun and warmth for a couple of months, and it was just so refreshing to have a day of cool, damp weather. I don’t want it to end.

Somehow one of my coworkers convinced me that I would be a good mentor for a social work intern. One thing led to another and my social work intern is starting with me on Friday. I’ll have her every Friday for 4 months, then 3 days/week for 4 more months. It’s a real deal commitment and I can’t believe I got suckered into this. It will be good for me, though. It’ll help get my skills up and will keep me on my toes. I met her for the first time a couple of days ago and she is full-on Delta Burke – looks just like her and has that same sort of out-going personality. She seems great. I’ll have to get past the Delta Burke thing, but I think she’ll be great. I’m nervous about being someone’s intern supervisor. I mean, this woman is a woman and next to her I feel like a really young professional. I hope I live up to her expectations and that she can learn from me. I’m sure I’ll learn a ton, too.

Sending much love,
