“When the soul wishes to experience something, she throws an image of the experience out before her and enters into her own image.”
John O’Donohue
Gosh, I love John O’Donohue. Have you ever read his book, Anam Cara? A must, must, must.
As a possibilitarian, I love and live by the idea that Hope is an ongoing spiritual practice. It takes a lot of soul work to orient our inner lives toward all that is good and waiting.
When I was much younger, my cynical friends used to tease me about my hopeful spirit. I was naive, they said. Uninformed. Unrealistic.
But what I know now is that I was tuned into the truth that when we are at the edge of what we know, it is Hope that invites us to trust in possibilities we can’t yet see.
And so, Hope is transcendent, no? It’s a bridge between now and what can be. It is so worthy to be Hopeful.
Thank YOU for your hopeful spirit. Thank you for the work you’ve done to let it be a source of light, for you and others. Thank you for not hiding or dimming your Hope, even amongst the ones who tell you it’s foolish. Thank you for trusting its vision, both for your own life and the world. Your hopefulness matters. I really believe that.
